Marti Witherow
PhD, LPC, LMFT
Dr. Marti Witherow is a Licensed Psychologist and has 20 years of experience in mental health, working with couples, families and individuals. She graduated from one of the oldest universities in Europe, Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary (est. 1635) with a Phd in Clinical Psychology and also holds a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi.
Marti takes an integrative approach to psychology and therapy, drawing on neuroscience and evidence-based modalities to treat the whole person.
Dr. Witherow completed a postdoctoral Master’s in Clinical Psychopharmacology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, an APA-designated program, along with a psychopharmacology fellowship. This advanced training in how medications affect the brain gives her a deeper understanding of the full picture of mental health, bridging therapy and brain science in a way few therapists can.
Marti is passionate about neuropsychology, applied neuroscience, and marriage and family therapy. She has helped many couples overcome serious obstacles and restore their relationships, including after extramarital affairs. With advanced training in the Gottman Method developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, she helps couples manage conflict, support each other’s goals, and rebuild lasting trust. Marti is also a speaker, workshop leader, and researcher whose clinical work in marital intimacy continues to inform her practice.
She is an APA and AAMFT Clinical Fellow and has extensive training in several areas of psychology and counseling, including Internal Family Systems Therapy, medical psychology and psychological treatment of sexual dysfunctions. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Mississippi and Alabama (MS# 66 1249; AL#2384), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MS #T0415), Licensed Professional Counselor (MS #1252) in the State of Mississippi and a Certified Sex Therapist (by the American Board of Christian Sex Therapists).
Both when working with individuals and couples, she often uses her unique training in Internal Family Systems Therapy. The IFS therapy model offers a clear, non-pathologizing and empowering method of understanding human problems that has been shown to help reduce a variety of presenting problems such as anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms or compulsive behaviors.
