David Damon

LPC (MS#-3019)

David is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Masters of Arts in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS.

David’s passion for counseling began in college when he saw firsthand the healing and change that can happen when a person is given a safe space in the counseling room. Since graduate school, he has had the opportunity to work with clients of various ages and backgrounds. He has served as a Mental Health Counselor at Clinton High School, and previously he provided in-home mental health services to children, teens, and families of the Jackson and Vicksburg areas.

Oftentimes, we find ourselves stuck in patterns of thought, emotion, or behavior that cause us distress. These patterns can lead to frustration and shame, especially when we try to force or will our way out of them. In the counseling room, David provides a space of empathy and understanding where he can help you access the inner resources of compassion, creativity, care, and curiosity already inside of you. With practice, you can learn to use these resources to promote positive change that is full of compassion, and not shame.

David has experience using an array of evidence-based theoretical approaches and will work with you to find that blend of these that is best suited to your personality and needs.

Couples and Family Counseling

David has rich experience working with a wide variety of family systems thanks to working as an in-home family counselor in the central Mississippi area. David’s approach to counseling couples and families is based on Attachment therapy and the Emotion Focused Therapeutic model. This approach guides David to facilitate compassion and curiosity within the counseling room, and to help individuals express longings and fears in a safe and meaningful way.

Individual Counseling (Adolescent – Adult)

David provides individual counseling services for those seeking help with depression and anxiety related disorders, intrusive thoughts, ADHD, grief, trauma, injury, communication and relational difficulties, as well as performance difficulties. David’s guiding therapeutic principle is to support clients as they engage in the difficult but rewarding journey of developing skills of self-compassion.

A specific area of interest in David’s counseling is around performance-based counseling.  The goal is to reduce distress and unconscious factors that take away from a person’s ability to perform or act. These difficulties might show themselves in athletes, creatives, public speakers, or any other skill-based task.  David’s passion is helping his clients work through these mental roadblocks so that they can better use the skills that they already have.
